god 6 times a year either to marquette or flint....miles and miles and white out until you hit the lights of the bridge, then the real white out starts.

OMG, wish I would of seen your post when you first commented lol... Your not kidding about a white out! I went up there in early late Jan or early FEB... not the time to travel up there at all!!!
Before the bridge, just south of the North branch exit... the weather was bad but we hit black ice and were in a van that has a high top. Its not good in the wind at all... So my husband was fighting to keep us on the road due to the gusts of wind. When we hit that ice patch we did 2 360s and then went sideways down 75 for what seemed like a long time lol oh and yes we were on 2 wheels..... we were not done, did another 360 (thought we were gonna flip) During that spin I noticed that all cars were stopped and far enough back that we would not hit them.. hard anyway. By the grace of God we spun back into facing the right direction. And while that was all going on, all I could think was thank God everyone has on their seat belts.... little did I know that my son and his girl friend had taken their off because they were not comfortable! I praised my husband and his driving ( normally I complain lol) but the amount of steering he was doing to get us out of that was amazing.... that van is a pain in the ass in the wind. Somehow he kept us from flipping and out of the ditch. The drivers all stayed far enough back... probably because they seen all the cars in the ditch like we did... within 10 miles there were at least 5 cars stuck on the side of the road!
But I was dreading going over the bridge in that van in the wind... I know they close it for high wind. I follow the rules for the trailers and empty semis when in that thing.... Oh and my praise for my husband didn't go on for long. Because we hit whites outs past the bridge.. too many to count. And the worst was when we got close to Munising... that was so horrible you could see NOTHING but white. We had to stay at a hotel and that was not easy either. Big snowmobile weekend and almost everywhere was booked. My son found a place using his phone but we could not see the place. Forget signs lol, we could not see the road, the lake or even the buildings unless you were a few feet from them and then it was shadows that you saw. It was like being blind. We relied totally on the GPS...stopped where the dot was and a bunch of cars. Sent my son in and thank God it was the right place lol... while he was signing in, someone else came in and took the last room. That was it for hotels in Munising.. Oh and did I mention that they had closed US 2, 28, 41 and 96 lol... the reason I was so mad at my husband and son was because they knew about those storms and wanted to go anyway... I did not know about the storms but still wanted to wait a few weeks because I know thats a bad time to travel up there. When the Yoopers start complaining that its one of the worst they have seen... you know its bad because they have seen some snow storms over the years... Same storm hit Buffalo a day later.

Walked across the ice under the bridge one time. Way more fun than driving across.

Wow... they also close the bridge on Memorial day or Labor day, don't remember which anyway they close it so people can walk across. Not that I would do it lol.... nor would I walk across the ice, I would be afraid I would get out in the middle and the ice would break lol

I agree... thanks. I am not a photographer and my camera is cheap so the bridge and the lake are what gave it the DD. Even though the bridge scares me everytime I cross it, I got to say that they really take care of it. Thats why I don't mind paying the toll when I cross. They are always working on the bridge. Now someone needs to get a good night shot, when its lit up.
Are you from Caseville? Sorry can't spell it lol Thats a pretty area too

You're welcome! And regardless of your camera, I think it's a nice shot. :)

Yeah, I'm fine crossing it...though bridges in general give me a little anxiety. But the Mackinac Bridge is much safer than the Zilwaukee Bridge seems to be. (It's actually fine, but I don't like it.)

A night shot would be great!

I'm actually from Columbiaville, which is ten miles North of Lapeer. :) Where are you from?

Yes it is. I am almost 50 too, but started going up in my 20s because my Dad bought property there. And the past 15 years I go a lot because my parents retired there. I still ask them why they couldn't do like normal people and retire in Florida lol

Very cool, I haven't been that far west, I'm going to the Pictured Rocks area. Would like to go to the Porcupine Mountains though.

Would you happen to know roughly when the trees and things start to bloom up there?
